All about Glass Railings

A glass railing is a very popular part of the infrastructure and is mostly used in the interior design of a given space or at the façade of any building. The most important feature about selecting a glass panel is making sure that it's safe. Safety is the primary concern. Hence, it's always advisable to purchase glass railings from a well-established and trusted organization. With a trusted and well-established organization, there is an assurance of the glass products used as the designing, the components involved, sections, the profile of the glass they all go through a deep engineering check and they are pre-registered by the organization itself. Various types of glass railings are used in any given infrastructure. They are discussed as follows:-

Post Glass Railings:- This is preferred for its adequate security reasons and consists of metal posts and glass clips. These are most commonly used in commercial spaces.

Base Rail Glass Railings:- In this kind of railing, there is a particular section that is connected to the floor, and it moves along with the glass railings.

Pin Glass Railings:- This comprises small round shaped fittings, using which the glass railings are fitted/installed on a given surface.

Talon Glass Railings:- These are named talon glass railings because there are fittings called talons in which the glass is fixed.

Ascend Talon Glass Railings:- In this kind of railings, the posts of the talon brackets are enlarged, which acts as a safety factor.

Seamless Glass Railings:- These glass railings do not comprise any kind of boundary enclosures, they are continuous rows of transparent glass blocks arranged.

When it comes to key points of the value engineering of glass railings, it comprises of

Glass: Always use toughened glass or semi tempered glass, this is also known as heat strengthened glass (HS). Whenever a toughened glass will be shattered, it will result in small pieces which will get accumulated in one cluster and will not hurt anyone. With toughened glass, you can consider using a thickness of 8mm- 12mm thickness. If you choose to use heat-strengthened glass, then always make sure that glass is SGP laminated. The major difference between toughened and heat strengthened glass is the size of the broken glass particles. Toughened glass breaks into slightly smaller pieces as compared to HS glasses.

Aluminium:- The mechanism of glass railings can also be developed using aluminium. It forms the extruded sections of the glass railings and they are tempered to increase their hardness. The colour coding on aluminium is done using powder coating of PVDF on the surface and by anodizing. Anodizing is cheaper than powder coating.

Stainless Steel 304, 316 Grade:- This is used to define the top rail fittings of the glass railings. The coating on SS is done to achieve a particular colour/design through PVD coating. This is quite costly, as compared to the other coating methods.
