What is Stainless Steel Railing
A Railing can be defined as a protective boundary for handheld support. Various substances can be used for the construction of railings. However, in the last few years, stainless steel has been the most popular choice for the same. Due to its easy availability, low maintenance and corrosion-free properties, it is the first choice for various railings such as balcony railings and staircase railings.

What is Stainless Steel:-
It can be defined as alloy steel that has the characteristic properties of being corrosion resistant. This property is developed due to the presence of chromium in the alloy which forms a very thin layer of chromium oxide on the surface of stainless steel, thus making it resistant free. This layer formed is termed as ‘Passive Layer’. For a steel to be declared as stainless, it must consist of 10.5 % of chromium and 1.2 % carbon.
The various types of stainless steel that can be used in railings are:-
Austenitic stainless steel:- It’s a combination of nickel and chromium and in some cases, manganese is also used. The grades of this kind of stainless style are determined by the presence/absence of manganese. It's non-magnetic. They are used in railings, glass fabrication chemical plant equipment.
Ferritic Stainless Steel:- It is magnetic due to the absence of nickel. The main component used is chromium. Apart from railings, it is also used in hot water tanks.
Martensitic Stainless Steel:- They were the first industrially developed variety of stainless steel. It is used in railings and surgical instruments.
Duplex Stainless Steel:- It’s a combination of ferritic and austenitic stainless steel in combination with molybdenum. It is used in railings, petrochemicals.
Precipitation hardening Stainless Steel:- It has been formulated to possess ultra-high strength. It is used in many rare scenarios in railings.
Amongst these, the first two types of stainless steel constitute95% of stainless steel applications.
